PETITION TO NSW STATE PARLIAMENT
REQUESTING BUSHFIRE MITIGATION IN TUROSS
Well before the disastrous Black Summer bushfires, THPA requested Eurobodalla Shire Council to thin undergrowth on steep west-facing Council owned bushland in areas along Hector McWilliam Drive and Trafalgar Road to provide a bushfire buffer to the residential areas in Tuross. Despite repeated requests over many years, Council refuses to undertake works to reduce the bushfire risk in these areas. Tuross was saved from bushfire damage in Black Summer due only to a timely wind change.

THPA recently commissioned an independent professional Bushfire Assessment Report which concludes “..there is significant risk to Tuross Head in the event of a bushfire..” Also, the National Climate Risk Assessment was released in September which predicts extremes in weather including higher temperatures to come.

THPA has now approached NSW government to assist.

THE PETITION AIMS TO CONFIRM COMMUNITY CONCERN ABOUT THE BUSHFIRE RISK IN TUROSS HEAD AND TO REQUEST SUPPORT FROM THE STATE GOVERNMENT TO ENCOURAGE THE COUNCIL TO ACT.
